I'm trying to anchor some standing cabinets and book cases to the wall into the stud to prevent the cabinets / bookshelves from falling. In the process of doing so, the screw will stop and not want to go in. I had luck and was able to get them in but I stripped two screws in the process of doing so. I think I'm using the wrong type of screws to anchor a brace to the stud or maybe I'm doing something wrong. This was my current process: 1. Find stud. 2. Drill pilot hole with 3/16" drill bit through drywall and into the stud. 3. Use impact to drive the Everbilt #10 x 2-1/2" Zinc-Plated Flat-Head wood screw. In the process of driving the screw in, it freezes and takes a lot of effort to get it in. The screws I'm using are wood screws and have a smooth part with no threads towards the top "flat head." Am I doing something wrong and using the wrong hardware? Any other tips and tricks to make the job easier? Thanks. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2wQp2rw
