A family member opened up an account with them for convenience (because of a nearby office) but knows zero about investing. I've worked in the biz and said I'd be happy to help get their investment vehicles chosen, figuring I'd just go on Scottrade's site and choose the right one - simple as that, right?
No - not even close. Not only do they not provide a list of their no-load, no-transaction fee mutual funds on their website to prospective clients, they won't do it on the phone or chat - they make you open an account before they will tell you what they are. That's right, they will not give me a single ticker symbol of a fund that meets the criteria. Unfuckingbelievable.
I just need something comparable to VTSMX and VFINX, my two standby funds - Scottrade offers them but hits 'em with transaction fees. And ETFs like VOO are out of the question because those are $7+ per trade amd subsequent contributions are going to be too low to justify the expense (probably $100/mo so that would be like a 7% load).
Can some poor soul who has an account there just run a quick screen please? This is for an IRA for a 20-something so I'm looking for a total market fund with a max 2500 initial investment with no load and no transaction fees with the lowest expense ratio. An S&P 500 would be cool too. Thanks a bunch.
