Hi PF, I am working on selling a used car. Its posted on autotrader and ebay. Yesterday I received a text asking me to email detailed photos. No problem, sent an imgur album.
Today I get an email reply, claiming that he wants to pay my full asking price as a gift for his father. He claims to be an engineer from hp, and that he will paypal the money and have the car picked up.
He asked for some info, but nothing scary: my paypal email address (same one he already emailed to), phone number (same one he already texted), and zip code. All this info is readily available to anyone buying the car anyway, so its not THAT shady.
Obviously I'm cautious about this. Can someone steal my identity or otherwise scam with just this info? If a scam i would imagine the next step would be to ask for more personal identifiable info.
If this is genuine what steps should i take to protect myself?
