Homeowners in disasters that are recognized by FEMA can get a period of leniency from their mortgage servicer.

The time period has not been decided on yet for Harvey, but during this period your servicer will not try and collect late payments, won't put you into foreclosure, etc.

Based on our portfolio I'd estimate that 300k mortgages fall into FEMA's current disaster zone.

Obviously people are more worried about evacuation right now, but in the coming weeks contact your servicer if things are going to be tight.
