My significant other and I have lived together for several years. We have not married because both of us were married for more than ten years to our respective spouses, and both ex-spouses currently earn far more than we do. We are both in out late fifties and working class - Boomers/Gen X'ers that didn't fall into great jobs right out of high school and make a killing on the family home. If we don't marry, we are both eligible to collect Social Security on the ex-spousal income. Where can we find genuinely helpful information? What type of qualifications or experience are we looking for in a financial adviser?
