Looking for some advice. We are restoring a victorian fireplace. It was bricked up and we are just opening it back up. We are not 100% decided on how to finish it up yet, but it will only be a cosmetic restoration initially. Here is a video of what we have so far: https://youtu.be/OPADV-vWkooDoes anybody know of any cross sectional diagrams that shows all the parts that such a fireplace would have contained? We have found that there there is a stone slab in the centre at ground level and that this has lots and lots of rubble at the sides (you can see the deep hole on the right side of the fireplace in the video where we removed some of the dirt and rubble). In particular, we were wondering why there is so much rubble here and whether we can just remove the rubble and place another stone slab in that area to create a flat section by extending the flat stone surface which is already at the centre. Anybody seen the same thing? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2x1K3CB
