I need some help to make a decision. I'm working for a small subsidiary of a company with around 15.000 employees since 02/2016 and quickly managed to do make a name for myself. I do my job well and after a few month managed to negotiate special working hours. Overall I'm happy at my job.
Due to unfortunate circumstances one of the four subsidiaries in the field might be closed in the near future. As far as I know a decision hasn't been made yet, but imho it's only a matter of time.
Reason for the possible close-down is the changing market and falling numbers. I doubt there will be any positive change in this regard.
I met the boss of my boss coincidentally the other day and we started talking. Pretty much out of the blue he asked me if I was interested in a recent job opening. The job he was talking about is in another field and offers more stability for the future. My boss doesn't know about the offer at this point, neither do my colleagues.
Here's the problem: There's some competition between the subsidiaries I'm working for right now. I know for a fact, that my employer doesn't want to lay off people, but has done it before when there was no way to find other jobs at the company. My subsidiary is the smallest out of the remaining and would be an easier closure because of this.
With me leaving my position, I'm almost certain, that my firm will be closed, because it would be really hard to keep the business going without me there and without filling the position. Me leaving would be the nail in the coffin, so to speak and would mean, that at least half of my colleagues would be laid off.
On the other hand, if I decline the offer, someone else might be offered the job (and take it) and would leave me in the position I don't want to leave my colleagues in. It might also be offered to someone at another subsidiary and take the pressure from ours.
Bottom line: If I take the job, I would have a good woking place with good stability. Money would be the same, working hours a little worse, commuting a little better. Taking the offer would certainly be the safest bet for me (which is why I'm leaning towards taking it), but it would also mean my firm will close and put my colleagues into a really shitty position.
What would you do and what would be the best way to leave the old job, without burning all the bridges with my current colleagues.
