Not sure if this is common practice but I started doing a neat fashion lifehack the last few months. I have been taking my old chinos to my tailor and she turns them into shorts for $5/pair. I've done 2 pairs so far and am pretty happy with them. Both pairs were BR slim chinos. It is nice because you can cut the pants to whatever length you like. I tend to do a ~8in inseam and roll up the bottom because I like the look.
Anyway thought I would share in case anyone wanted to try it! My way of giving back to this thread because this thread has saved me so much money (more like made me broke). Take care!
