Apologies if someone has mentioned this recently. A friend of mine on Facebook mentioned that she was having to trash all the food in her fridge and freezer due to being without power from the hurricane (she lives in Atlanta.)

I told her that it might be covered by her homeowners insurance. She checked with USAA and was able to submit a claim and they waived the deductible. She said she filled 2 outdoor trash cans with food. She has 4 kids and a husband and it would have taken a few weeks to build back up the stuff they had to toss. Now the funds should be deposited in her account in just a few days.

Even if you didn't have physical storm damage, power outages from storms could cause losses that will still be covered--it doesn't hurt to check!
