After eight years of loyal service, the MacBook Pro that my undergraduate school gave students has finally passed away about a month ago. I am currently a full-time grad student, and this month has been exceedingly complicated without a computer of my own. I have an iPad (bought about four years ago) and a little keyboard for it, but using it as my main computer has major drawbacks. I cannot use citation software, word processing is slow and difficult to format, and getting documents off of the system involves a four step conversion process. This makes me think a new system is in order, but I am not sure what direction to take. New? Used? Refurbished? Do I try to stick with a Mac, since that is what I am familiar with? Do I buy the absolute cheapest machine out there? What kind of specs do I actually need? Help!
