Hello, I am getting ready to pour a new patio which will be covered by an attached 2nd story deck (to be built after). I have done a fair amount of research and have found either limited or conflicting answers for couple questions. I'm hoping for some feedback on best practices for this situation. The deck will be cantilevered over the patio, with the post footings within the perimeter of the slab. The slab will be 4" thick and the footings, which are 20" diameter, extend 18" below the slab. Ideally, I'd like to do a monolithic pour to cut down on time and costs (pouring the footings and slab at once). Should I tie the footings to the slab with rebar? The ground is settled and we don't have especially cold winters. The sub-base is 4" of compacted 3/4 minus gravel. Joints will be cut in the slab following the pour. Given this info, is there any real benefit to using remesh or rebar in a slab this thick? Thanks for any feedback or tips you have!Edit: The main portion of the slab which will be covered by the deck is 13' by 21' via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2wTZslo
