Hi, r/frugal,
The past year has been one financial set back after another (hospitalization, lost consulting job, credit card to cover living expenses, etc.) I understand the situation I'm in is the consequence of my own actions and poor planning (i.e., no emergency fund). I cut up my credit cards and made arrangements for lowered monthly student loan payments. I'm reading the posts on r/personalfinance.
A frugal principal that I read about was "cheap, cheaper, cheapest" (in "The Tightwad Gazette").
Example:
Cheap - Make coffee at home instead of buying it at a cafe
Cheaper - Switch to an off-brand coffee
Cheapest - Drink 1/2 as much coffee
Cheap - Buy clothes at an outlet.
Cheaper - Buy clothes on consignment.
Cheapest - Buy clothes from a thrift store.
What are some creative ideas for ways to save some money throughout the month?
What I already do:
I'm wearing the clothes I already have instead of purchasing new.
I hang clothes to dry.
Thermostat is set at 78F or turned off, using box fans.
Using library and free Kindle eBooks.
Work at home as much as possible.
Share a Netflix acct with my parents.
Asking friends to go camping for my birthday party.
