Thought that I was just replacing a lightbulb in a kitchen light that hasn't worked in the two months since they moved in.Opened it to this http://ift.tt/2xx0Igj looks like a bunch of hair (like felt that isn't packed together) sitting directly on top of the one bulb present, with a piece of foil between the two.I assume the foil is keeping the hair from catching on fire, but why is the hair there? Insulation I assume? If I'm using a modern bulb (nowhere near as hot as lightbulbs were when this place was built decades ago), can I just remove the whole mess? Is it really needed? If I can't just skip it, any suggestions on replacements that seem less likely to be a fire hazard than this mess? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2wP1hyn
