Elaboration: I'm 22 years old, with around 10k in student loans as my only current debt. I've never had a credit card, and am currently renting a townhouse with my SO. We're both financially stable enough that I don't need a credit card, but I'm wondering if I should get one to acquire and improve a credit score. We're planning on buying a house at some point in the next five years, so I'm wondering if getting a credit card and paying it off consistently would be a smart decision.

My job will be reimbursing me for my flight costs, and I'll probably be flying once every couple of weeks for the weekend. I normally fly Delta, and was looking into their credit card because of some of the offers I would get, like the first checked bag being free, racking up a lot of "free" miles, etc.

When I was growing up, I was basically taught that credit cards should only be used when absolutely necessary, in emergencies. Should I be starting to use one now for the perks, even though I'm financially stable?
