I had a post a couple weeks ago regarding 2 offers I've received. We're now down to the final offers and everything shakes down to this:

  • Company A - $110k/year - straight time overtime for anything over 40 hours. Large firm, similar to my current job as far as size(large) and opportunity. I will move up through the ranks but not sure at what pace. The positives are my familiarity with the type of work and the fact that I'd be paid hourly

  • Company B - $105k/year, $7.5k signon bonus after 90 days - salaried position (no OT) with year-end bonus. Much smaller, local firm trying to build a department. Looking to double the firm size from 300-600 over the next 10 years. A bunch of "lifers" work there. I pushed for them to match company A but they stayed firm on their original offer. The positives are company paid phone, summer friday hours, I'll likely come in at a higher position/more people under me, and they've told me they envision me in a leadership role. The senior guy there is 2 years into a 5 year plan to retire. So realistically I could be leading the office/group in 5 years or so. That is not a possibility with company A.

If the offers came in exactly the same (salary) I would likely take the chance and choose Company B. But the fact that they did not move at all on their original offer is a little disheartening. Since the department is sort of being built, there is risk that the plan could fail and I'd hate the work I do or I'd get laid off. Benefits, vacation/sick time, etc are pretty much a wash between the companies.

Any input? I appreciate any advice.
