Hello, The tenant who lived above our apartment broke water pipe while they were moving out of their apartment yesterday. This caused the ceiling in my living room to fall causing damage to my TV, laptop, phone charger and dining table chair. Since I do not where did they go and who they are, I reached out to my renters insurance and they have asked me to file a liability claim with the tenants who lived upstairs else I will have to pay my deductible if I file case with my renters insurance. As I do not know who these tenants were, I have asked my apartment management company to give me their renters insurance details and the contact information of these tenants but seems like the apartment management company does not want to help me with this apart from only fixing the ceiling. Since I do not know who used to live in the apartment above me, I wanted to know what are my options.
