It's open enrollment now for my benefits at work, and I'm comparing plans in regards to a baby on the way.

I'm due late October. My benefit year is Oct-September, so none of my current OB visits/payments up through the end of September will count towards my out of pocket max. Basically, I'll be giving birth in the first month of benefit year so I'm starting over building back up to that deductible and out of pocket max.

I'm considering switching up from a silver tier to a gold tier - paying higher monthly rates, but with a lower out of pocket max.

How should I calculate total estimated costs? Yearly premium + deductible + out of pocket max = total OR yearly premium + deductible + (out of pocket max - deductible) = total cost

My 'health benefit calculator' on company site uses the second formula -- but the numbers don't add up when I add up the individual components of the plan. Any advice?
