Hi guys, After moving around in Europe, I'm thinking of making the jump from Malmö to Silicon Valley (to a relatively new but financially healthy employer). The puzzle I'm faced with, is the big disparity between cost of living and expenses between Western Europe and the US. After furious googling, I seem to get wildly varying results for living wage", and more straight-forward comparisons don't seem to take medical expenses etc. into account, and/or are behind a paywall.

So the question that I'm trying to answer is: what kind of salary should I aim for to (at least) keep the same Quality of Life state-side. Given that:

Current employer pays me: 500K DKK gross/year (~~ 80K euro) Moving to a Silicon Valley employer with good medical plan. Right now I rent a family home (150m2), but I'll guess I need to move smaller; not even the notion of > 100m2 housing seems to exist.

I'm looking for ballpark figures; I'm trying to prevent the situation where I would actually be stuck with lower QoL on the other side of the planet. I see reports < 100K living wages (http://ift.tt/2hI3sBn) but also reports of people barely scraping by on 160K (http://ift.tt/2lfPO51) so I don't know what to think. Any help would be appreciated; either in the form of personal experience, or good resources.
