I've done a lot of research online, but I was hoping someone could help with explaining the benefits of an IRA vs a 401(k) or 403(b). I have friends who only invest in an IRA and nothing else because of the benefits and how much they can put in and sometimes I wonder if I should be doing the same
Is putting money into a Roth IRA significantly better than putting money into a 403(b)? Do you have more freedom with an IRA that is better if you're going to be switching jobs here and there? I am saying 403(b) because I have been working at a nonprofit for the last 2.5 years since I graduated from college. I'm also in my mid 20s. After one year of working there, my organization puts 7% of my gross paycheck into my 403(b) regardless if I myself put any money in. Of course, I do put a bit in every paycheck.
I would like a better understanding so I can make the best decision for myself moving forward.
Any help is appreciated!! :)
