So i've just recently moved to the states and my wife has a job which puts money into a 401K for her. I assume this is just like the RRSP accounts we have in Canada. Now, we elected to put the money into a 401K such that there will be no taxes when she withdraws the funds. Is this not a 401K anymore? Is it a Roth IRA?

I read online something about a $5500 a year contribution you can make to a Roth IRA and a $18,000 a year contribution to a 401K.

I need some clarification and couldn't quiet make it out when I googled this information.
