I booked the car through expedia/alamo and was quoted $363.95 for 9 days at San Diego Airport. I understand that there are additional charges and taxes, but it came up to $506.94. This is a lot more than I had expected.
Here is the breakdown.
- 1 week @ 193.75
- 2 day @ 55.36
- Extended protection @ 14.19 x 9 = 127.71
- Concession recoup fee 11.11% = 43.05
- Tourism fee 3.50 PCT= 8.72
- Customer Facility Charge 9/day = 45
- Vehicle license recovery fee = 10.71
- Sales tax 7.75% = 22.64
I took the Extended protection and declined CDW as my AMEX covers CDW but not personal liability. When I asked about all these charges, I was told that this is standard and everyone has to pay them. What made it even worse was that the second day I started getting credit card fraud on my card. AMEX called and said they detected fradulent purchases from a different state. It might be coincidence but they were the last people that handle my credit card.
