Recently just went to home depot to pick up some magnetic child safety locks. Normally I'd just order these off Amazon, but figured why not... we're already out and I can have them today to install.
Low and behold, they were $30! I initially put them back, then thought to simply whip out phone and see what they were going for on Amazon. Exact same brand and item... they were only $20! So I just said I'd order off Amazon with prime and have them tomorrow.
Then it occurred to me they might do price matching. So I took the item to the cashier and asked. They said they just need to see proof of the lower price, and they'll beat it by 10%. So I show them the amazon price. They dropped it down to ~18$ for me. How great is that! Got it for an even cheaper price and had it immediately.
So, thought I'd just share this with folks out there that are number crunching and running budgets. If you're at a brick & mortar store and you feel like the retail price is "crap", see if they do price matching.
I told the cashier it was a win win for both of us: I got what I wanted today, got it at the cheapest price possible, and Home Depot still made money off the sale, albeit at a lower profit. His eyes sort of just glazed over but oh well. Gotta love capitalism!!
