And I realized the reason for hoarding so many books was for appearance mainly (seeming brilliant or refined to others) and also a little from these pressing thoughts of necessity: "that if I am to read, I must read the all the works of Shakespeare, every story of Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, and I must read this classic here and this classic here if I am to have the best experience."
I realized what bullshit that mindset was. I only want to read what I want to read, books that interest me, books that I know would inspire me.
Getting it down to 49 was the first step; I'm going to continue my process of elimination by deciding which books I can see myself returning to again and again after being read. I'm hoping to reduce my library down to 10-15 books of my favorites (any other book I can check out from the library). Wish me luck.
Curious to know if you bibliophiles out there had similar experiences.
