Hi all, just looking for a little advice on getting a car.

We are currently a one-car family and own a two-door 2009 Hyundai Accent with almost 75k miles on it. This worked for my wife and since we've been together however we had a kid last year and are now really feeling the "squeeze" of having a smaller car. Now that we've got a full-size car seat in the back, only one other person can sit back there and it's a tight squeeze at that. Additionally, due to the limited trunk space, when we take a long trip anywhere every nook and cranny in the car is packed to get everything in. Lastly, my wife quit her job to be a stay-at-home mom so when I go to work she's effectively stranded at home until I get back.

We've been making due until now by borrowing my mom's 2015 Hyundai Elantra a few days out of the week since she rarely uses it and it allows my wife to bring the grandkid over to visit. However, we feel bad doing this in case my mom has an emergency that requires her to have the car and additionally, we would like to have access to a bigger car more often than a few days a week.

For all the above reasons, we've started looking into purchasing second car, either used or new. My requirements are good mileage, roomy, decent cargo space, and of course, affordable. I would love for it to be "fun" as well but I know this is not something that you generally get when you have the previous requirements.

From my research, it looks like the car that most closely meet these requirements is a new/used Honda Fit. Assuming there's not another car to consider (suggestions are ) I'm now stuck between deciding to buy new or used. Whatever car we get we plan on driving into the ground so I don't know if that means a new car might actually make sense.

Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome!
