Hello all! I read a comcast conversation from prior in this sub and it inspired me to write my own simple guide on how to get a better comcast deal.
Not going to lie, technically speaking this isn't exactly moral. I'm simply doing it to get a better deal as comcast is one of two internet service operators in my area (the other being centurylink). Once you wear out the initial promotion it becomes a terrible deal.
So imo there are two ways for you to start this conversation off and you NEED to come across as angry but firm. You cannot back down at any of the steps and I will try my best to describe what they will push back with.
Okay so starting off: The two things you call them to be angry about (both of these have worked for me for several years running now):
-
Your promotion ran out but comcast failed to notify you that the price would be increased. HOWEVER you only found out about this via a comcast sales call when they tried to sell you MORE services. They tried to sell you bundles that were more expensive than your current price and you mentioned this to the rep. That's when they told you that you are now paying XYZ which is ridiculous and higher than what you were originally paying. Why didn't they notify you of this?

A rep called you and you agreed to deal on just the internet service alone (performance internet is 69.99 where I live). However this morning you logged in and saw that they had signed you up for the double play at that price point instead. You are furious regarding this. Is Comcast trying to steal from you? You know that there is a 8-10 dollar price increase in taxes from picking up cable in addition? Regardless this is absurd and you want to speak to someone immediately in regards to fixing this issue.
At this point you will be talking to or transferred to a customer service representative. They 100% absolutely cannot help you get a good deal at this stage of the phone call. You just have to be firm that this is unacceptable and something needs to be done. They will push back for a little while and keep apologizing but again will not OFFER you anything.
This sounds ridiculous but just keep doing this for 5-10 minutes straight. Don't let them get off the phone with you, don't let them offer you any double plays or alternative deals or transfer you to sales. Just keep repeating that this behavior by comcast is unacceptable and something has to be done.
5-10 minutes later you'll be locked in the exact same conversation with a likely exasperated customer service representative and then you give them the out. Ask if you can talk to someone about cancelling comcast service. The reason for the 5-10 minutes nothing more than my own personal history of interactions with comcast. You don't have to do it but I haven't tried it without it.
At this point they will forward you to the department for cancellation of service which is actually the line where they have the power to make you a better deal. For instance I am on my 4th year of getting the BLAST internet package for 50 a month. Hope this helps!
TL:DR be an asshole but you need to know your way around before you call so you get to where you need to go.
