Hi,

first i know this sub is BIFL but i don't know if there is a "not bifl" sub...

Anyway, i read a few times on this sub, when people ask for BIFL shoes, the answer "merrell"... well i wanted to share my experience: photo

Seemingly, merrell was a good brand when it was made in USA, now it's all made in china, and this pair in the photo, who i had for one year, broke after at best 5 weeks of real hiking use.... The sole started to fall ppart and the stitching broke... This pair cost me something around 345 CAD so we're not talking cheap shoes here... When i went to the shop, the guy told me to never buy merrell again, he explained they are modstly glued, and the very few stitching present, well... you know how they last. He directed me to LOWA shoes, entirely made with stitching, made in germany, the sole can be replaced, and they are the same price.... Also, if you read the facebook page of merrell, you'll see i'm far from the only one, lots and lots of "the stitching broke in a few months" stories... so sad to see quality drop so fast when a company moves to china, because i heard from people who had merrells made in USA, that they were very durable.
