Today I called a mechanic I trust to tell him I was planning on buying a newish vehicle--2014 to 2016--and wanted to know if it was easier for him to work on Hondas or Toyotas. He told me "neither". He said the computers require passwords to do even basic things and he would be happy to change the oil, but that was about it. He said he was looking for something for his parents to buy as well and was considering leasing. He recommended I lease a car or if I wanted to buy to get a Hyundai as it has a longer warranty than other manufacturers. One thing I know is definitely not frugal is having your car repaired at a dealership out of warranty. It has changed my perspective on leasing and whether it is worth it to buy a newer vehicle.
