(Also posted in succulents). HELP PLEASE - I need suggestions as to how to install my 4 foot TEK grow light on the ceiling in my little front porch plant room. It measures 7' X 11'.The light was previously hanging from a wooden beam in my basement (I use the TEK for spring seed starting and herb plants). But my succulents are doing badly on my porch due to lack of light. So I need to harness the TEK's power on my succulents. (And, still use it for seed starting and herbs from there, as well). The TEK (which has 4 fluorescent tubes weighs @ 10 pounds total). It can easily move up and down by depressing two buttons. But, on the porch I also want the TEK to move back and forth along the ceiling (so I can direct the TEK on a variety of plant stands/tables which are located on the porch at varying heights.)So here's one of my ideas: picture a typical shower curtain rod setup (which uses two support brackets at opposite sides supporting a curtain rod. But I would use PVC piping instead). Since TEK is 4 feet long - i would need to stabilize it's width with TWO (2) parallel PVC rods, perhaps about 18 inches apart from each other. These would serve as the forward and backward motion. The tricky part is that the TEK must be attached to something (like how it was screwed into my wooden beam - to facilitate the up and down aspect. Thus, it can not be hung directly from the ceiling or I won't be to able to slide it. OK - this is where I get "wonky" in the brain (my family refuses to discuss this with me - as I loose them in paragraph two above). I thought if I got a 4' length 2X4 and drillled holes in it for the PVC piping to pass through - I could then screw the TEK to the 2X4 - then I would be able to slide the TEK as needed. Plausible? Insane? Overkill? Can this be done simpler?I was checking out the concept of barn door ceiling railing systems, also. But they got expensive and it really didn't look like it would work. I hope someone can help me out here with suggestions. I thank any and all who took the time to read through this - I am no engineer but a true, true succulent lover who needs help. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2xcwVY8
