My parents came to me earlier this week and let me know they are two months behind on their rent. They are terrible with managing their money and constantly have issues with past due bills and rent. Every month they pay their rent late along with a late fee. Tomorrow they will be officially a month late on August's rent (owing an additional $500 in fees for that month) plus September's rent will be due.
I am 28 and I am completely self sufficient. I pay all of my bills on time, budget, and save what I can every month. I am the exact opposite of them. I have gone into my savings in the past and paid their rent in hopes it would allow them to change their behavior. They have not. To be honest, I am tired of saving the day. They want me to either pay or loan them the money.. I feel like I should step away from the situation for my own good and let them deal with the consequences for once...but they are at risk of being evicted.
Any advice on how to best deal with this is appreciated.
