Hi PF! I am a 25 year old renting with my SO, with a total of around $45k in college, car, and CC debt.
My Credit Union has been doing promotional budgeting seminars for free, so I attended one. It was an hour in which we talked about the above free services, and got Q&A time with our branch's Personal Finance Consultant.
I set an appointment with the PF Consultant immediately. He got me set up with a budget that aims at snowballing my debt. I know avalanche is preferred on this subreddit, but I think the consultant is right about the psychological effects of small wins, plus snowballing my freed-up payment money quickly.
I am going to open some supplemental accounts soon. The idea is that you get ghost accounts under your original account that you can label for specific purposes like "6 month car ins premium," "motorcycle gear," "Christmas," "birthdays," etc. I am pretty excited about this service! It's like a free digital envelope system within my bank accounts. I am in budgeting heaven.
It pays to ask your financial institution for help. It also pays to bank with a credit union.
And a big thanks to the community here at PF for helping me keep my eye on the prize.
