For a while I was wondering if I should keep my gym membership or not, so I've started calculating how much my workouts cost.
Basically, I have a section of my budgeting worksheet where I input the number of minutes I spent at the gym on each day. Using that, I've been calculating my cost per workout, per hour, and per minute. If you can come up with a value that you think is acceptable to pay per minute or per workout, I think this can make it a lot easier to visualize if you're getting your money's worth. Alternatively, it can kick your butt into gear to get to the gym.
For example, we're halfway through August and I've currently driven my cost for the month down to 9 cents per minute. By the end of the month, this will probably be closer to 4 or 5 cents a minute. To me this is absolutely worth it. If I were at something like 30 cents a minute, I might not feel the same and consider canceling my membership.
