On a video with Kevin O' Leary being interviewed by some news station or another (I've seen so many interviews, they're all mixed up), he says that investors who go into new businesses lose 80% of the time and profit only 20% of the time.

That being said, I still get excited by the idea of getting in on the ground floor of a new company. To do venture capital, you generally need Big Money, but now I hear of Start Engine, a crowd sourcing website for venture investments. This supposedly allows you to invest just a couple grand into a business.

Anyone have experience? First, is it even legit? Second, is it really that risky?
