If you're thinking about December holidays now is a wonderful time to make delicious homemade gifts!
Last year I made Asian pear butter and we packaged it with homemade chili oil in thrifted teak bowls, wrapped with cellophane. Each gift last year cost us under $10 and we gave them to about 6 families/friends whose house we went to for holiday events.
Today I saw in the local grocery store add that peaches were $1.28/lb, so I bought 6 pounds and 2 bags of nice organic sugar on sale for $1.99 each. I had a set of 12 jelly jars I previously bought on sale for $5 and with a few hours of work made 12 bottles of vanilla honey peach butter and with the scraps made 3 jars of peach syrup! All said and done the 15 jars cost me $17 (with a bag of sugar left over) and are very tasty.
We're going to pair them with a jar of pancake or biscuit mix.
Anyone else getting a jumpstart on thrifty gifts?
