I am a 23 year old law student.
More specifically, I'm a law student who is in a lot of debt.
Even more specifically, I'm a 23 year old law student in a lot of debt who is slowly trying to take control of his bad habits, weight, and health.
I've got work to do.
There's not much reason for me to go into the nitty gritty, but here are my relevant circumstances.
-
I am obese and currently losing weight.
-
I have about 7,000 in credit card debt.
-
I will have about 150,000 of law school debt that I will begin payments on in 2 years.
-
I will receive about 17,500 in assorted living expenses each year for the next two years.
-
I have positioned myself to have a decent middle class job upon graduation, which is eligible for loan forgiveness.
-
I have a fairly new car, 2016 Accord, that I do not have to pay for for the next 2 years. The same goes for my insurance and cell phone.
The biggest problem for me is that I enjoy the finer things. I love a cigar at the end of a long week, and a good strong beer after work or school. I'm looking to cut out the cigars, or at least save them only for the most special of occasions, and cut down to 2-3 drinks per week (currently I'm at more like 5-6.) I'd also like to stop eating out, except on special occasions: I currently eat out about twice a week.
I'd also like to revamp my meals: I want to begin meal-prepping, and will have 4-day weekends this semester with which to get in the habit of it.
Beyond all this, I've been working to establish daily cleaning, self care, and de-cluttering regimens. I'd like to begin to live more simple, more cleanly, and with a lower impact on the environment.
Does anyone have other, specific tips for someone in my situation to begin getting his credit cards paid off and his life more generally on track?
