Some unusual circumstances have led to me having 6 months of leave available at full pay. This is a combination of accrued annual leave and long service leave. I'm looking for a way to work on a short term project that will generate money during this period. I'm also interested in setting up a source of passive income that will continue to generate revenue after I go back to full time work.
I currently work as a senior manager for a software company and I have a technical background. I'm comfortable with web application development. I can also write detailed technical specs and have had web applications developed on upwork. I've worked freelance as a senior management consultant for one client.
I'm reasonably skilled as a handyman and can do basic plastering, plumbing, carpentry and the like.
I have money to invest and a property I could borrow against. I would be comfortable risking up to few times $10,000 on a venture, to go beyond that I would want the investment to be backed by a real asset such as a property.
I would need to give my employer about 6 months notice before taking this leave so I can spend time doing research and exploring opportunities before committing to anything.
I'm in Melbourne Australia.
