So I'm reading that VIX options do not closely track the underlying because there are no actual VIX shares to be traded, so VIX options are priced according to VIX futures.
What do you get if your VIX volatility future gets exercised? For example, getting your corn future exercised means you purchased corn. What does it mean to "purchase VIX volatility"?
Also, since the VIX does not have shares, can you trade VIX without using options?
