When I was young my grandma would steal salt and pepper shakes from dinners, so I grew up with the mentality it was okay to take things that were 'left out' for your personal usage. My grandma was stealing but my mother would always stock up on Splenda for her tea at home when we would occasionally hit a dunkin donuts vs buying it in the store.

I have also picked up the trend and take advantage when things are left out for my person use in order to cut down cost. Here are the ways I do it and I am curious to hear how others take advantage of free items!

-Tampons and razors are left out at every single luxury gym in NYC. I use class pass (look it up and see if its in your area!) and pay 15 bucks for a class, but in addition to a supply of razors and tampons *I dont regularly use tampons, i use a Diva Cup bc its more economical and environmentally friendly but you need to keep tampons on you in case. So i only take 2-3 each time i go. I only take one razor. But they are free!

  • I also always make it a point to only use the nicest gyms with the nicest products so after i take a intense workout class, I use these luxury gyms beautiful facilities so it feels like a spa day with really expensive shampoo and bath products for free! Some gyms have steam rooms and saunas so I try to book those 5x per month as Class Pass allows!

-Once a month i get lunch Chipotle or Starbucks and I take some extra sugar packets for my office coffee. Same thing with plastic forks for lunches!

-If I happen to hit highway rest station, I stock up on individual packaged mayo for office lunches or for picnics.

  • I send away for free samples on a bunch of different websites to try out their new products. Esp face care products and tooth paste. I use sample sizes a decent portion of the year.

-Same thing with Sephora. Go into a sephora and say you would like o try out some different products and they will give you a bunch of different things and you can try things out before committing to spending a lot of money on them.

-CVS extra bucks. if you really learn to use the CVS point system and buy some essentials here, you could rack up 50+ dollars of free things throughout the year depending on what you normally use in your life.

Those are some of mine and I am curious to know how some of you use free items to your advantage?
