i purchased this 33ft string of 100 LEDs for an aquarium lighting project (under the tank). i only need about 40in of the string, and i also need to remove the bulb closest to the usb plug, thus leaving me with a string of 8 bulbs.http://ift.tt/2vrUyx9 i've pulled up on google say that you can't cut the string because now there will be too much power flowing through the string and will burn out the bulbs. all this info seems to mostly be coming from mostly from old posts on custom christmas light forums though, and i haven't seen anything about specifically being powered by usb.this shortened string will then be plugged into this usb hub with switches so that i can easily turn the light off and on.http://ift.tt/2u2EvCo i guess my question is if i can't just cut the string to my desired length, then what do i need to do/add in order to do so safely?also, how should i go about removing a bulb from the string? will a soldering iron get it off? or should i just wrap it with heat shrink?intended usage will be for up to 6 hours daily.thanks via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2v1m1DQ
