Hey r/diy! I am creating a light fixture out of these sauce jars. I was originally planning on cutting the bottom out, but I don't want to lose the ridges/curve at the bottom of the glass. From what I've found there isn't an easy way to cut the glass from the actual bottom, rather than the side of the glass. This led me to the next option, inserting the entire light/fixture through the opening. I can accomplish this by using a T6.5 light bulb and having the cap of the bottle be whats holding everything up. The glass part would then enclose the bulb and fixture. My question is, with this being completely enclosed is it too much heat within the jar? If so how much venting would need to be done? Would small (tiny) slits in the cap be enough, or what about 4ish small (1/2") holes in the bottom of the glass?Prior ResearchIn trying to find this answer through Google, I have not been able to find the specific output of heat through this type of bulb, though I know incandescent bulbs are much hotter than LEDs. I have also not been able to find the breaking point of even a mason jar, though I have read they can handle boiling liquid. I would assume my jar is similar, though I would imagine it would be less resilient.I have found a couple of "jar lights" for sale that can hold up to a 40W bulb. If that is a general rule I should be fine as the bulbs from the link above are 25W, though I also read that you can't trust the Wattage to get a proper idea of heat output.I have not been able to find LEDs that look decent and have the right color output or I would just use them. The closest I have found is Warm White, which is around 3K, I'd like to be around 4K if possible. They need to look decent as they will be seen through the clear glass.Am I being over cautious? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vD8OkP
