The house I'm purchasing is a 1940's property that's generally well looked after but has only ever had a partial rewire (and at that, rather idiosyncratically with loft wires run along interior walls, a hall light that is wired into the floor instead of the ceiling).I'm looking to get a contractor in do to a full rewire before I move in - and I just wanted to clarify from those with experience doing it, what connectors, spec and cabling I should realistically consider for someone of middle-class means.Right now, I'm specifying:4 double sockets in each large room, 3 in each smaller room. (up from 2 and 1 respectively)Running three double CAT6 spurs between the TV/home-office/breakfast nooks to a central point under the stairs.Move the telephone socket to the same placeI would be happy with this, but doing my own research has come up with some suggestions (CAT6 over CAT5e for the HDMI compatibility) , but some have been dead ends - people suggesting coax routing (we don't use satellite/broadcast TV), wiring for smart heating (which now seems all to be wireless?) and for speakers (we're looking to re-arrange rooms, so the TV is unlikely to stay where it will go first - thoughts?).My question is:Realistically speaking, are there other wiring standards or 'good to have' options that I have missed from my research?Should I engage an electrician to RECOMMEND as well as install? If I should get someone but not an electrician, what is that professional called?Cheers! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vLHL6W
