I'm looking at replacing the linoleum floor in our kids bathroom with tile, and want to make sure I have things figured out.The house was built in 2013, and in the kids bathroom the lino is starting to peel up next to the tub. I would like to fix this before I have bigger problems. I would also like to go with tile as an upgrade.I would also prefer to rip up the lino rather than tile over top. Am I crazy? From what I understand, after I rip up the lino I should have bare subfloor, should I lay plywood on top of this, or go straight to thinset then cement board? My joist spacing is 24", so I believe I should go with 1/2" cement board, correct? As this is a kids bathroom, they like to fool around in the tub a fair bit, and so water splashing outside the tub is a given. With that in mind, is tile the right choice, and if I go with tile are there any extra precautions I should take for water intrusion? My plan now is to rip up the lino, scrape off the adhesive, remove the vanity and toilet, lay thinset, lay cement board, then tile overtop and reinstall everything. I'm assuming I will need to caulk where the tub meets the tile?Anything I'm missing? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2iePAix
