I'm in the process of updating the front of my house (facade repair/replacement + paint). Apart from the wood structure, a big portion of what you see from the street are the bricks that comprise the front steps/wall and garage facade. The brick in question has randomly interspersed black bricks (see images). The finish isn't paint, it feels like it was baked on when the bricks themselves were made.http://ift.tt/2wrduwt I want to do is remove this dark layer from these interspersed bricks to get a more uniform color.I've had a go at searching online for tips but have only found posts relating to staining or coating/painting. I'm not sure how well staining would work to go lighter (most posts were about staining weathered light colored brick to a darker color). Additionally, I'm not sure about painting the entire brick area (though I have considered it).As an attempt, I picked up a wire brush drill attachment and had a go at a brick, but the layer is too hard and just a bit too thick.Looking for any tips for treating just the black bricks to get them to a color closure to their neighboring bricks. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2vSbxqx
