I am an aerospace engineer with ~6 years of work experience, currently living in the Piedmont Triad region of NC Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point. Cost of living is relatively cheap here. I recently interviewed for a position that I am very interested in located Greenbelt, MD. Most of the particulars of the job are very appealing to me, but I am worried about the high cost of living in the DC area. If I get offered the position I want to be sure that the salary will be acceptable when adjusted for the new location.
I've been trying to find a good cost of living calculator, but most of them tend to limit your choices to analyzing only DC itself, not the surrounding area. I don't think this is very representative, because my impression is that living in DC has significantly higher cost than living in/around Greenbelt, MD, but i have no way to know for sure.
Any suggestions on a good tool to use in this scenario? I'm kind of spinning my wheels here and I'm getting numbers that are all over the place and/or don't seem realistic. I've tried Bankrate, Nerdwallet, CNN and a few others. Any help is appreciated!
My apologies if this is covered in the subreddit wiki - a brief search didn't turn anything up.
