My company is relatively small, and my bosses are the company owners. I recently got a raise and a promotion, and I'm very happy with my situation. I'm not in sales, so client outreach is not my responsibility.

Recently, I got my hands on a big international client through a friend of mine, and I'd like to bring it to my company. However, I'm not a big believer in the whole "give your 150% everyday and hope to be rewarded in the future".

I'm well established in my career, and I'd like to treat this as a business transaction. I'd like a fee on the new client if and only if it actually gives my company a profit in the long run, which means I have no problem waiting a year to get a bonus or similar.

However, I don't know if my employers would like this, and the people on CSCareerQuestions seem to believe this is a terrible idea and I'm terrible employee.

Why can't this be trated as a simple transaction? I'm bringing more money to my company for a modest price, why would it be seen as a bad thing?

What do you think is the best way to approach the issue with my employer?
