I live in South Carolina.
I worked at Kroger in the gas station kiosk.
I just received in the mail a notice saying my claim to the Unemployment office was denied due to voluntarily quitting my job at Kroger by failing to return to work. This is straight up not true. I was never on the schedule to work at all. For several weeks I worked only one or two days a week, something I thought was fine because a co-worker that worked both in the store and in the kiosk was hurt on the job and could only work in the kiosk. I thought this was fine. The last day I worked was June 17th. I was also scheduled to work June 18th, but I became very sick that night and had to go to the doctor. So I used a personal day and agreed to bring a doctor's note on my next work day. I never said or implied that I was quitting. If I was scheduled I would have shown up.
Only, that day never came. I was never scheduled again after that. I checked the schedule each week and tried to contact my supervisor and coworkers, but I never got an answer as to what was going on. Eventually I was no longer able to log onto the website to check the schedule. I was never contacted saying I was fired or laid off, nor did I receive any notice of missing a work day (which couldn't have happened as I checked each week).
I also never received compensation for my vacation hours or remaining personal days. I was told by a manager of another Kroger that I should still get that but I have not.
I filed an appeal and I am going to call the person that I spoke to in the Unemployment office. Is there anything else I can or should do? I may have a new job in a month or so, but I really needed the money until then.
