So I'm looking to get a rental car for a week, and planning on using my discover card. The thing is I don't have any personal vehicles, so naturally I have no auto insurance. Now, I'm wondering what type of insurance do I need to buy from the rental company?
I'm a AAA member and I'm going to be using hertz since its going to waive off my underage fees, and hopefully give me some discount. So that gets roadside assistance covered. Also I'm not going to get the personal insurance. I'm definitely going to get the liability which protects other people's cars in case of an accident (I guess, I'm no expert on this). What I'm confused is about the Collision/Loss damage waiver. I checked the discover website, and this is what they had on their auto rental insurance page:
"With built-in secondary auto rental insurance, you can hit the road and leave the worry behind. Just use your card and damage or loss up to $25,000 may be covered. Eligible Cardmembers are automatically eligible to receive reimbursement up to $25,000 for amounts paid for repair of Damage or Loss to a Rented Automobile, and for which they are responsible. The Company will reimburse either the Insured Person or the Rental Agency, up to $25,000, for repair or replacement of a Rented Automobile, on an Actual Cash Value basis, if the Insured Person is covered by the policy and such Insured Person or any Authorized Driver suffers Damage or Loss to a Rented Automobile, and the Damage or Loss occurs during the Rental Period."
Does anyone have an idea if the insurance from the discover card is going to be enough for an economy car. I'm on a really tight budget, and don't want to pay another $30/day for CDW which adds up to more than 200 for a week's rental. Thanks!
