See pictures here: http://ift.tt/2hVtW2I have a single-story ranch. No basement. Just crawlspace. Trusses run the depth of the house (24 feet, as shown in the sketch -- from the county -- in the image link). House was built in 1966.About in the middle of the house, there is an L-shaped wall. The short side of the "L" is something we'd like to cut down to 42", to open up into the dining room more, since it's a very small galley kitchen. That part of the wall runs parallel to the trusses in the attic. We've talked to a few contractors, and they've said they doubt any part of the wall is load-bearing. So we've operated under that assumption, but it gets scary once you start the actual work. The closer picture of the framing shows a double plate at the top, which has me concerned. However, we can see up in there (and fit the crowbar in) and there is no truss right over the top of this.Does all this point to this wall not being load-bearing? I realize strangers on Reddit should not be my final answer, and you won't be. But I'm just looking to get as much info as possible. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2w1EDG5
