I have an old Craftsman table saw (model #113299142) that I am retrofitting to include some of the more desirable features of modern table saws. So far, I've got casters that actually lock on it and the underside is (mostly) sealed for dust collection and includes a crude integrated cyclone separator. My problem is the riving knife, or rather the lack of one. The saw comes with a blade that sits about 2 to 4 inches behind the blade depending on the blade height and mounts an anti-kickback pawl so aggressive it will ruin woods as hard as oak as well as a blade guard that is impossible to see through. Annoyingly, it mounts on the rear motor mount and is a huge pain to remove so I can use any sled/jig. I just end up leaving it on a shelf. This is a bad idea. On a table saw that tends to fall out of alignment easily it is a worse idea. Now, I don't have the cash for a current generation table saw, and quite frankly the saw is better than anything I could afford. Also, this is from my craigslist trawls a very common table saw. Somebody has retrofitted this model with a better riving knife before. Right now, I'm thinking of mounting something on the insert plate. Any suggestions? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2wCv26G
