EDIT: Thanks for the responses! I've chilled out and will just wait to see if she contacts me or my insurance since I'm at fault. It's a pretty small scratch and her car is pretty old so hopefully she wouldn't want to bother with insurance either.
EDIT2: Other person messaged me back saying she won't report it. I was apologetic and she was nice about it saying that she's okay and her car is fine too!
Hi Reddit.
SO this is my first accident at fault. I was making a right turn in the corner but for some reason (possibly because I just made an hour commute at 6AM), I thought the person in front of me had already gone and I was focused on looking left to see if any cars were coming and I accidentally hit the car in front of me, leaving a bit of a scratch on her right rear and my car is totally fine.
I asked her if she wants my information and we swapped infos. I got her name and number and took photos of her car. 10 minutes later, I got to work and was reviewing all the stuff and I didn't realize at the time, but she actually gave me her DMV registration. What do I do at this point? I've called her and left her a text message asking for her insurance and for her to call me back so we can have a friendly chat. I'd rather not go through insurance for this but not sure how to approach her as she's not responding back.
I'm also low-key panicking because I got her DMV registration instead of her insurance. Could it be possible that she didn't have insurance? Or maybe she left it at home?
Also not sure if I should try to file anything right now since I would prefer to wait to see if she does anything?
Thanks!
