Thanks to this community! I have read and learned so much over the past few years and finally tracked down a good job lead a month ago. I jumped on the application and the process got moving very quickly as my skillset finally aligned perfectly with the job description. Despite getting significant raises over the past 4 years, I have felt my skillset and work ethic compared to the rest of my office were unparalleled. This has been a real pain for me to live with and lead to mild depression over that time. Reading stories of people fighting for raises and switching jobs to get what they want our of a career has inspired me to follow the same path and it finally happened today. Started job 4 and a half years ago at 37k with promise to raise to 40k after 3 months. Nobody said anything to me so I decided to stick it out and show my worth (first hard lesson learned). After one year got bumped to 41k. Year two got bumped to 45k. Year three bumped to 57k. Year four bumped to 60k. These are incredible jumps in pay and I am grateful for the experience and recognition, although the work environment felt toxic at times due to the lax environment and joking with eachother. I finally realized that this led me to become bitter about how I was treated and the lack of professionalism surrounding me. So I went looking for a new job at a bigger company with better pay and benefits that aligned with my morals, etc. Today I accepted the new job at 74k with great benefits and leadership with an open upward trajectory at the company. Putting in my two weeks was one of the hardest things I've had to do and blindsiding the partners and my team leader didn't feel great, but gotta look out for number one, me and my family. Anyways, I wanted to share my feeling of career success as I gained the courage to fight for what I wanted from all the members of this subreddit. I am eternally grateful everyone! Thank you!
